I just bought another adapter to confirm and go figure. There's got to be some feature throttling my speed.
Family network controller card 2.5g only getting 600-700 mbps
Link speed 2500/2500 (Mbps)
Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller
Driver version
1125.21.903.2024

2025-06-11T22:50:51+00:00 I did all this and my computer is reading 2.5 gbps although when I run speed test it keeps saying 500-600. I've read a lot of this information on internet and I just 100% believe there's something in the background throttling my speed.

2025-06-09T07:30:38+00:00 Hi, Thanks for the update. Since you've tried the main steps to fix the problem and nothing has worked, here are a few more things you can try:
- Check to see if the cables are of good quality. Sometimes cables, even ones that say "CAT6a" or "CAT7," are broken or not properly shielded. Change the cable for a certified cable that you know works.
- Turn off Large Send Offload (LSO) and any other features that offload:
If you want to see faster speeds, go to Device Manager > Realtek Controller > Properties > Advanced tab and turn off features like Large Send Offload (IPv4 & IPv6), Jumbo Frames, and TCP Checksum Offload.
- Update the firmware on your motherboard or network adapter. Some network adapter manufacturers release firmware updates; check the website of the PC or motherboard manufacturer for any updates.
- Check it out in Safe Mode with Networking or after a fresh start:
This can help rule out any problems with third-party software that could be slowing things down.
- Connect directly to the modem or try a different port on the switch or router:
To narrow down possible problems with network devices.
After following these steps, if the speed is still slow, it's probably because of something outside of the computer, like an ISP slowing it down or hardware limits.
Please let me know if you want to try any of these, otherwise I’m here to help with anything else.
Many thanks,
Pau

2025-06-08T17:17:29+00:00 Hi Raul, my name is Pau and I'm an Independent Advisor. I know that your Realtek 2.5GbE Family Controller says it has a link speed of 2500 Mbps but only actually gets 600–700 Mbps. I'll show you the exact steps you need to take to fix this.
To fix it, do these things:
- Use a CAT6a or CAT7 cable that has been approved to work. Labels on the cables: > Must be CAT6a or higher
- Check your switch or router.
Make sure > The port can handle 2.5Gbps > If you need to, update the router's firmware.
- Manually, update the network driver.
Click on Device Manager and then on Network Adapters. Click the Realtek Controller and then click Properties.
Hit the "Driver" tab and then "Update Driver." Look around my computer > Choose for me > Choose at least version 1125.21.903.2024
- Correctly set the speed and duplex
Click on Device Manager and then on Network Adapters. Click the Realtek Controller and then click Properties.
To get to the advanced tab, Click on "Speed & Duplex" > Change it to "Auto Negotiation"
- Turn off features that save power
Click on Device Manager and then on Network Adapters. Click the Realtek Controller and then click Properties.
Check the box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and uncheck it.
- Test with a local file transfer
Use a 2.5GbE LAN to copy a large file between two PCs.
This only checks LAN speed, not internet speed.
- Test the speed in your area.
Visit > https://www.speedtest.net > Choose a local server

- Turn off apps that limit your bandwidth
Open Task Manager and turn off any VPNs, firewalls, or antivirus software that might be limiting your internet speed.
- Switch to a different computer or port.
Checks for problems that are specific to the adapter or port
By following these steps, you can get around most of the speed problems with 2.5GbE cards. If the problem still happens after this, it could be because of your ISP's throttling or a hardware limitation. You can check this by testing on a different device or in a different environment.
Please let me know how things go. If I can help you in any other way, please do so.
Have a great day!
Best regards,
Pau
