How to reset keyboard functions?

My homeschool computer is acting up. Whenever I press the "k" key, the volume decreases. Whenever I press the space key, the volume increases. And for some reason, whenever I press the F6 key to try to lower my volume, it types a "k" into the text box. Also, when I first sign into the computer, whenever I try to type a number into the password box, it puts the number at the front of the box instead of putting it after the letters, the way it is supposed to. I tried resetting the computer, but the problem continued. I shut the computer down and let it sit for about 30 minutes. But when I turned it on, it said Windows wouldn't start correctly. Once I got to the sign-in screen, the problem stopped. But after about 15 minutes, the problem resumed. I have a wireless mouse and a pair of wired headphones. I tried disconnecting them, but the problem continues.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

It looks like the keys are remapping automatically.

    1. Do you have any third-party applications or games installed on your School Computer?
    2. Are you using any gaming keyboards where you can customize and remap the key functions?

I recommend re-installing the keyboard drivers and see if it helps.

    1. Open the Device Manager.
    2. Expand the arrow next to the Keyboards.
    3. Right-click your keyboard driver, select Uninstall device, select the Attempt to remove the driver for this device check box, and then select Uninstall.
    4. Once uninstalled, restart your PC.
    • If you have multiple keyboard drivers, uninstall all of them in the lists and restart your computer.
    1. Test your keyboard.

If the issue persists, run the hardware troubleshooter.

    1. Click the Windows + R key, type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic and click ok.
    2. Click Next and follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter.
    3. Once completed, restart your computer and test your keyboard.

If you are still experiencing issues, it is possible that a third-party application might interfere with the keyboard, please boot your PC in a clean boot environment or safe mode and test your keyboard. If your keyboard works in safe mode, it indicates that a third-party app is interfering with your keyboard.
