Hello James,
Thanks for your detailed reply, that helps a lot.
Using the DisplaySwitch.exe /extend approach with Task Scheduler should work well for your situation. You can also go one step further and make it event-based, so it auto-triggers when a display is plugged in.
Here’s how to lock it in more reliably
- Press the Windows key, type "Task Scheduler," and open it.
- Click Create Task (not Basic Task).
- On the General Tab, Name Force Extend Mode
Check Run with highest privileges
- Triggers Tab
Click New
Begin the task: On an event
Log: System
Source: Display
Event ID: 4101 (this triggers when the display output changes)
- Actions Tab
Click New
Action: Start a program
Program/script: DisplaySwitch.exe
Add arguments: /extend
- Conditions & Settings:
Leave as default or adjust to your preferences.
This way, your system will auto-switch to Extend every time a new display gets plugged in, regardless of the monitor model.
Let me know how it goes once you try it. I’ll be here if you still have questions.
Best regards,
Adrian A
