Full screen applications capture, and screen share not working properly- as it used to.

Hello,

as in the title, I have a problem with capturing the full screen applications (for example, Geometry Dash, or Minecraft) and screen sharing them (through discord).

If I do screenshare, them, they barely work in less than 1 FPS. On OBS (Video recording app), if I try Display Capture (just like it worked for good 2 years..) it shows a black screen/maybe some glitching. Everything was alright just a few days ago, I don't feel like it's the graphics card driver problem cuz tried reinstalling them and no change (on both, screen sharing and OBS). (also tried windows update downgrade/upgrade)

It's also not a problem related to power saving plan, I have full performance on.

What I even did, is install Windows 10 on another disk, and there everything works fine, as it used to on my main Windows11.

Even weirder, is that if I want to record other game- Rocket League (fullscreen mode) I can- no problems. Why these 2 apps would not work + the discord screen share? Im literally 100% sure if I would reinstall windows11 it would work but it's the hard way..

[WINDOWS 11 EDUCATION 24H2]

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (MSI 8GB VRAM)

I use dual monitor setup, It only happens on Extended display mode.

    Since Discord is uninstalled:

That helps narrow things down to OBS + Display Capture on Windows 11 24H2 + dual monitor extended mode. Some affected users report:

    1. OBS Black Screen on Display Capture = GPU conflict

Even with one GPU, multiple displays can cause this:

    > Go to: Settings > System > Display

    > Temporarily set your main display to the one you want to record

    Then:

    > Close OBS if open.

    > Right-click OBS > Run as administrator

    > Check if Display Capture now works.

    1. Test Game Capture instead of Display Capture

Even for fullscreen games like Geometry Dash or Minecraft, sometimes:

    > Display Capture breaks.

    > But Game Capture (specific window or full screen) still works

OBS Game Capture setup guide (official): https://obsproject.com/kb/game-capture-setup-guide

    1. Known issue in Windows 11 24H2 Insider/Preview builds

Please send a feedback to the Microsoft Feedback Hub https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sen...

Until a fix comes out, you might consider:

    > Using Game Capture instead of Display Capture (more stable)

    > Rolling back to a stable Windows 11 23H2 version

    > Or, as you said earlier, switching temporarily to Windows 10 if it’s critical

Please let me know if it worked or not and I would be happy to assist you further. Thank you!

hey, sorry for a bit late response but Im just so fed up with this..

    Tried these- no change.

    with discord uninstalled.

I only don't understand  "Make sure apps like OBS and Discord are allowed to capture the screen." where? In settings I only found I can check it for microsoft teams and can't add anything

Hi, my name is Julian. Since this is a public forum made up mostly of fellow gamers and users like you and me, all we can offer are guidance and suggestions. I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue.

    Here's what you can try:

    1. Hardware Acceleration Conflicts

    > Some full-screen apps (like Geometry Dash, Minecraft) + Discord screen sharing + OBS don’t always play nice together with hardware acceleration—especially on Windows 11 24H2. Try disabling hardware acceleration in:

    * Discord: Settings > Advanced > Disable Hardware Acceleration

    * OBS: Settings > Advanced > Set Renderer to Direct3D 11

    * Also, check browser settings (if used during capture).

    1. Graphics Capture Permissions / Settings

    * Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Graphics Capture

    * Make sure apps like OBS and Discord are allowed to capture the screen.

    * You can also try toggling "Graphics Performance Preference" to High Performance for each app: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/opt...

    1. Game Mode & Fullscreen Optimization

    * Right-click the game exe > Properties > Compatibility tab

    * Check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations"

    * Also test with Windows Game Mode off: Settings > Gaming > Game Mode

    1. Discord + Dual Monitor Quirks

    * Some users have found switching their main display temporarily fixes Discord’s screen sharing issue.

    * Settings > Display > Select display > Check Make this my main display

    1. OBS Display Capture Black Screen Fix

This issue is often linked to multi-GPU systems (even with 1 GPU if displays are split).

Try running OBS as administrator and match the GPU OBS uses with the one running the display you're trying to record.

If none of this helps, I agree: a full reinstall may fix it, but it’s a last resort. Since it works on Windows 10, it may be a Windows 11 24H2 bug or conflict.

Please let me know if it worked or not and I would be happy to assist you further. Thank you!
