My laptop has refused to open. I forgot the password but then when I tried to change, it sent a message to the authenticator which I input and ever since the screen has remained black and cannot turn on or off. The cursor can be seen moving but the screen has refused to open.

Hi Getrude Owoko

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand how frustrating this situation must be for you. Here are some steps you can try to fix it:

Restart Your Laptop – Hold down the power button for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then turn it back on.

Try Win + Shift + Ctrl + B – This resets the graphics driver and may bring the screen back.

Disconnect External Devices – If you have any USB devices or external monitors connected, unplug them and restart.

Perform a Hard Shutdown Twice – Turn off your laptop forcefully twice during the Windows boot screen. On the third attempt, Windows should enter recovery mode.

Use Startup Repair – In recovery mode, select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "Startup Repair."

Uninstall Recent Updates – If the issue started after an update, you can uninstall the latest updates from recovery mode.

Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM – In recovery mode, open Command Prompt and type:

sfc /scannow

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Reset Your PC – If nothing works, you may need to reset Windows while keeping your files.

Let me know if this helps.

Best Regards,

Lonex P.
