I have been trying to update to my laptop to the latest version (2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063060)) but everytime it would fail showing error 0x800f0831. SFC and DISM commands do not work, with the DISM RestoreHealth command ending in an error as well.

Hello Aaryan! It looks like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps with limited success. The fact that the second command to stop the bits service failed suggests there might be a deeper system issue, especially since the Windows Standalone Installer couldn't install the update.

    1. Check Error Details

Open Event Viewer press Win + X, then select Event Viewer

Look under Windows Logs > System and Application for errors related to Windows Update.

This can tell you more about what's causing the issue.

    1. Try the Troubleshooter in Safe Mode

Restart your PC and enter Safe Mode with Networking (hold Shift while clicking

Restart, then go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, then press F5).

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter again.

    1. Perform an In-Place Upgrade Repair Windows

Download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website.

Run it and choose Upgrade this PC now.

Follow the steps to repair Windows without deleting your files.

    This often fixes update problems.

    1. Check Disk Space and System Files

Make sure your computer has enough free space.

    Run these commands:

    [DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow]

If DISM fails, try running SFC in Safe Mode.

    1. Back up your data

Save your important files before trying major fixes like reset or clean install.

If you want, I can guide you step-by-step on the In-Place Upgrade or help check your logs. Just ask!

    Kindest Regards,

    Richard R.

    Hello Richard,

I tried some of the steps you mentioned above.

    1. The Windows Update Troubleshooter was unable to solve the issue.
    2. The 1st command to stop Windows Update service worked but the 2nd one didn't. The following result came up when I tried running it.

    1. The Windows Standalone Installer couldn't install the update.
    2. Can't figure out how to do this. Didn't find anything about it online either.
    3. Ran the chkdsk command but still the issue is not solved.
