Hi Chad,
Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community Forum. I totally understand your Windows had a problem error and restoring system files. I'll be happy to assist you with the information on what you can do.
Sometimes, this can happen after failed update, a language pack issue, or system file corruption. That could also be the reason of random shutdowns or restarts.
Here are the steps to fix this:
** Step1: Run SFC to fix files
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Press Windows + R
- Type cmd
- Instead of just Enter
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter at the same time
- Accept permission
- Then type sfc /scannow
- And press Enter
- Then wait to finish
** Step2: Use a Windows ISO to repair
- Download the Windows ISO from Microsoft
- Make sure it matches your version
- Double click to mount
- Note the drive letter (like D:).
- Then type
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:D:\Sources\install.wim /LimitAccess
** Step3: Clear Windows Update cache but optional
- Type one by one in Command Prompt:
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
net start bits
** Step4: Check for updates
- Go to Settings
- Then Windows Update
- And click Check for updates
** Step5: Update drivers and BIOS:
- Go to your device maker’s website (like Dell, HP, etc.).
- Then download
- And Install the current driver and BIOS for your device
I hope this helps and works for you.
