Locked out of phone after authenticator

I started out just wanting to sync phone and computer. I watched a youtube video... At some point I choose authentication for phone, I guess. Now my phone boots to a screen with black on top, asking: To start Andoid, enter your password. Emergency call, and key pad at bottom. I never had an android password. What password is it asking for. I am down to 4 tries before phone is wiped. I wiping phone a bad thing?
