The "WSIAccount" user account is a system-managed local account used for Temporary Access Pass (TAP) which is needed for Web Sign-in, a credential provider. This account is created automatically when you enable Web sign-in, a credential provider. Every time you uses the Web sign-in credential provider, the WsiAccount account is enabled but it's not displayed in the user selection list. After the user signs in, the account is disabled. Starting with Windows 11 version 22H2, Web sign-in can also be used for passwordless sign-in with the Microsoft Authenticator app, a Windows Hello for Business PIN reset, and a federated identity with a third-party SAML identity provider. These accounts should not be removed since certain system functions depend on them.

2025-06-09T01:01:23+00:00 No I did not .. I was just booting up the PC and it came up to the "Sign IN " page. I went to put my PIN number in and up popped this wsi account thing. Like I can maybe understand the need for such an item but IF this is generated by MS then how the hell can I know the password ??

From my understanding, Web sign-in needs to be turned on since it is not available by default. After enabling the Web sign-in setting, a new "Globe-like" icon (web sign-in credential provider) for signing into a Windows device using the Web appears on the lock screen. When you click on that icon, an embedded web browser appears. I have read that this scenario is the same as if you sign into Microsoft 365. After filling in your username, you are prompted to enter your password or to execute a passwordless sign-in using a FIDO2 key or the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Did you enable Web sign-in?
