Move free space from D drive (removable) to C Drive in Windows 10

Dear windows 10 users,

Please write me simple steps on how to move free space from D drive to C drive as I was stuck and don't really know why? I tried to move a large amount of unused memory space from D to C which runs extremely short (to cater for upgrading to Windows 10 Version 20H2 which was repeatedly failed to install). I went to Disk Management and attempted to "extend volume" from D to C but this option was greyed out unlike "shrink volume" which is available. I have also attempted to move "Users" folder (but not program and Windows files which should stay in C drive) but my laptop won't allow me to do that either though I am the administrator/owner. My preference is to move unused space from D to C. Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Emilio

    Hi
Moving free space from D drive to C drive depends on the hardware on your system.
If C and D are two partitions on a single drive , we could move the free space.
If they are two physical drives , we could not do this.

We could open disk management to see which kind of drive the PC has.
If we want to release more space in C drive , please use the disk cleanup tool .

I'm fairly certain that that is not possible. If you have unused space on the disk that C partition is on, then you might be able to extend it. You certainly would not want to use a removable drive, because if you ejected that disk, it would corrupt your C drive file system.

Run cleanmgr.exe and free up disk space on your C: drive.

Use Treesize Free to analyze disk space usage. https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free
