CrossDeviceResume.exe Mistake

Hello! Yesterday at exactly 14:31 GSOD occurred. And I still can't find the reason for this. But the problem is that I did a system restore. And after the system restore, all the computer's special microsoft programs were deleted at once. And then after hours of trying. Copilot gave me a powershell command. And I fixed this problem. Command:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

But after restarting the computer. I got an error like this:

And this error happens every time I turn on the computer or restart it. And when this error happens, there is something called 'parameter error' in this error. And after the computer turns on and the screen is reset, explorer.exe is also reset. And this endless error message disappears. However, when I looked in the event viewer, I saw this:

application-specific permission settings

For the COM Server application with CLSID

{2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54}

and APPID

{15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}

, the None SID (None) is not granting Local Activation permission to the user PCname\UserName with SID (S-1-5-21-56340355-1761501381-156275645-1001) at address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container. This security permission can be changed using the Component Services administrative tool.

Operation code: Information

This is the only indication that this is a problem. However, when I ask Copilot about it, it tells me to go to component services and open the DCOM configuration and then find the file {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and the file {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} in the same way. And it wants me to change the permissions of {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402}. But I can't do that. The reason is that these two files are not in the component services. I couldn't solve this problem in any way. I even went to the Windows folders. And Copilot gave me a command to delete this CrossDeviceResume.exe to solve this problem and I deleted it. But this error still continues. So I couldn't find the reason for this error. But I would like you to help me with this. So I would especially ask you to help me solve that error in the component services and to give the details in detail.

*NOTE: If this file is really something unimportant for synchronization, give me a command to delete it, if it is important, don't give it

Hello,

The "CrossDeviceResume.exe" file is an insider feature of Phone Link, which let the computer "pick up where you left off" from the phone.

It is a system file, so you should not delete that file. You are seeing the error message because a system service (likely Phone Link) uses that file and cannot run it.

You can disable Resume first, and see whether the issue persists. To do so, please right-click Start->Settings->Apps->Resume. Disable the "Resume" functionality, and see whether the issue persists. Also, please stop using Phone Link and do not connect a smartphone afterwards to prevent the system from running that file.

If that does not work, or if you need to use the "Resume" and other Phone Link features, based on the situation, you can try using DISM and SFC to restore the "CrossDeviceResume.exe" file.

To do so, right-click Start->Terminal/PowerShell/Command prompt (Admin), and enter the following commands:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

After running the commands, please provide a screenshot showing the output, and reboot your computer. See whether the issue persists.

If the issue persists, since you have mentioned that you are not in Windows Insider but running an insider build, you need to join Windows Insider manually, and perform an in-place upgrade using the latest image from the channel (Release preview, Beta, Dev, or Canary) the current system is in. Download the ISO file, open it in the file explorer (if you have other applications that can open ISO files, please right-click it->Open with->Windows file explorer. Enter the new drive it creates, and run "setup.exe". Follow the instructions, and when selecting what data to keep, please select "Keep personal files and apps".

Disclaimer: Let us try performing an "in-place install" or "in-place upgrade", which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications.

Regardless, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes.

If you want to back up your data first, please do so.

Please note that if the issue persists, or the repair failed, you need to reinstall the system, so please back up all your personal files to offline storage (like USB sticks, external hard drives, and memory cards) beforehand to prevent data loss.

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

    The solutions from Copilot is likely wrong, as generally there is no reason to delete system files or uninstall system applications without reason.

    Since you have mentioned that a green screen occurred, please go to file explorer->This PC->C drive->Windows->minidump, and upload the DMP files there to a file-sharing service for our analysis.

    We look forward to your response.
