Click & drag, right click not working with touchpad

As the title states, touchpad suddenly became unable to click & drag and right click on my laptop (Surface laptop 2). Left click, moving cursor, scrolling are working fine. Can still use two finger tap to right click via touch pad. Connected bluetooth mouse is able to do everything fine. Touchpad itself doesn't seem stuck (can hear click sound when pressing right).

Tried:

  • Surface diagnostic toolkit
  • Updating Windows
  • Uninstalling driver (HID-compliant touchpad) & restarting
Windows for home | Windows 11 | Devices and drivers

    Hi Michelle,

I am an Independent Advisor and I'm happy to help you.

Since you've already tried running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit, updating Windows, and reinstalling the touchpad driver, let's proceed with checking the Touchpad settings.

    • Open Settings (Press [Windows] + [I]).
    • Go to Devices > Touchpad.
    • Scroll down to the Taps section and ensure that Tap with two fingers to right-click is enabled.
    • Scroll down to the Drag and drop or Three-finger gestures section and make sure dragging is enabled.
    • If needed, reset the touchpad settings to default by clicking Reset under "Reset your touchpad."

After making these changes, test if right-click and click-and-drag work properly.

Let me know if this helps!

Tried this, no luck. Also, as I said, tap with two fingers to right click & regular scrolling still work - it's just right click (by clicking touchpad) and click & drag that are not functioning.

    Hi Michelle,

Please, let me know if you have access to a panel that sometimes is shown. Go to "Settings (Windows + I) > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad" and check if there is a button labeled "Additional settings".
