Need to reinstall keyboard driver

Random keys have ceased working. I have already tried to uninstall keyboard drivers through Device Manager and nothing changes after restarting my computer. The same keys still don't work. I've also tried to fix it through the troubleshooting screen, but the keyboard doesn't even show. Is there a way to fully just redownload the driver?

    Hello Kittenster,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

    1. Have you tested the keyboard on another computer, or tried a different keyboard on this computer?

(This will help us to determine whether the issue is with the Keyboard or with the computer.)

    1. After uninstalling the driver in Device Manager, did you check for Windows updates to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically?
    2. Is this a built-in laptop keyboard or an external USB/Bluetooth keyboard?

(If it’s an external keyboard, have you tried different USB ports or a different cable (if wired)?

    1. Does the keyboard work when you enter BIOS/UEFI (e.g., pressing F2/DEL during startup)?

We will be waiting for your reply.

    1. No issues with the wired keyboard I tested.
    2. Yes I checked for update, nothing.
    3. Yes, this is a built-in keyboard.
    4. Yes only because the keys used for BIOS screen I don't need.

I couldn't say so at first as I didn't have my phone and I was on the affected laptop,, but these are the keys not working: p, backspace, and the number 4 key on the numpad.

Kittenster, thank you for your prompt reply.

Since the external keyboard works fine, this confirms the issue is likely with the internal keyboard hardware. To confirm, run your laptop’s built-in hardware diagnostics (these tests run outside Windows ).

    1. Restart your laptop, and press F12 or Esc or F10 keys to run the hardware diagnostic tests. (You can refer to the PC manufacturer's's website or the manual on how to run the diagnostic test for your PC model)
    2. Select Component tests in the lists.
    3. Select the Keyboard and run the tests.
    4. Test the P, backspace and number 4 keys on the numpad.

    See if the test passes.

If the issue persists, you will need to contact your PC manufacturer and send your device in for service or repair.

Also, make sure to clean the keys properly. Use compressed air to remove any dust stuck inside. Also, check if your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. You can download the latest BIOS and chipset drivers from your PC manufacturer’s website.

    Best regards,

    Gunasekar N

Welp, looks like I might be screwed. I've tried using the bios screen AND the asus app and neither of them give me an option to do any type of hardware diagnostics.
