Configure External URLs

I am still a little confused and concerned.
I'm still on the configure external url's of the Exchange install assistant.

Step 11 says:
In External URL, replace the host name value with the new FQDN that you want to use. For example, if you want to change the EWS virtual directory FQDN from Ex2019.corp.contoso.com to mail.contoso.com, change the external URL from https://Ex2019.corp.contoso.com/ews/exchange.asmx to https://mail.contoso.com/ews/exchange.asmx. NOTE: You can't set an external URL on the Autodiscover virtual directory. Some organizations use a unique Outlook on the web FQDN to protect users against changes to the underlying server FQDN. Many organizations use owa.contoso.com for their Outlook on the web FQDN instead of mail.contoso.com. To configure a unique Outlook on the web FQDN, do the following steps if both of these statements are true:
You've configured a unique Outlook on the web FQDN (for example, owa.contoso.com).
The external URLs for the EAC and OWA are the same.
In Select server, choose your Exchange 2019 Mailbox server.
Select owa (Default Web Site) and then click Edit.
In External URL, enter https://, the unique Outlook on the web FQDN that you want to use, and then /owa (for example, https://owa.contoso.com/owa).
Click Save.
Select ecp (Default Web Site), and then click Edit.
In External URL, enter https://, the same Outlook on the web FQDN from the previous step, and then /ecp (for example, https://owa.contoso.com/ecp).
Click Save.
Click Save.
Repeat steps 10, 11, and 12 for each virtual directory that you want to change.

My 2013 server uses mail.domain.com
should I just use mail.domain.com on the 2019 server?

How will everything get to where it needs to go as well as not pose some sort of conflict?

Are you going to install a fresh Exchange server or you gonna install an Exchange 2019 based on the Exchange 2013 and do the migration?

Actually this situation is meanly talking about you want to change the URLs for these virtual directories, to make it working without problems, you need to keep a consistency for the external URLs.

And as you said, by default the Exchange server will use https://fqdn/ as the main part. If you haven't changed this, you could keep what it is for Exchange 2019.

That's the default settings, if your Exchange server is named Exserver01 and the domain is contoso.com, then it's https://Exserver01.contoso.com/(OWA/ECP etc..).
Note, if the you've deployed the coexistence environment(13 & 19), then you could use mail.domain.com whatever it is the default URL or not. But if you want to migrate from 2013 to 2019, I think you'd better not change the URL of 2019.

But if you changed the URLs to mail.domain.com manually to meet the requirements of certificate or other things, you may use this URL on Exchange 2019 either.
