Hi,

I have a Windows 11 desktop (24H2) and a NAS drive connected to my wireless router. There are no problems accessing the files on that NAS drive using the desktop via the file explorer and network route. I also have a Windows 11 laptop (also 24H2) and every time I go into 'file explorer', then 'network' and double click on the NAS drive I receive the message 'Windows cannot access \.....' and under see details in that message it identifies Error code: 0x80070035. The network path was not found. I've done a lot of internet searching but nothing has worked so far, such as playing around with SMB 1.0.

Can you help?

I have reviewed almost every article on the subject of Windows 11 Pro 24H2 and the various SMB issues. I've tried every combination of settings on the NAS side (which support SMB 2.1 and 3.0) and on the Win11 side. Through ALL of this, I keep getting the same error. I've been on Windows for 40 years - this is the first time I've had issues that I could not resolve.

    1. The NAS is fine on the network - older Windows 10 Home machines can access it.
    2. I can PING it and log into it with a browser from the Windows 11 Pro machine.
    3. I've tried all the recommendations for enabling guest logins, turning on SMB1, etc . . . nothing works.

This is a Hell of a problem for me in that the NAS is used to backup all development source code and now I'm completely hosed. My only solution is to use a Windows 10 machine to login to the NAS and the Windows 11 machine and backup across the network. It is completely ridiculous that I have wasted the amount of time that I have on this.

One would think that Microsoft would have some SMB configuration and diagnostic tools to figure out what the heck is wrong - I'm about to roll back from 24H2 and this is a major productivity hit.

I had the problem whereby my Windows 11 laptop couldn't access the files within my NAS drive. My old Windows 10 laptop and my Windows 11 desktop had no problem. I tried various things recommended in online articles, all to no avail. Eventually I gave up and had to accept that accessing files on my NAS drive had to be via my desktop or old laptop.

Then I had a different problem with my Windows 11 laptop, in that a blue screen appeared when it was switched on and I had to go through various steps such as selecting a language and keyboard type. Unfortunately, I ended up in a loop on subsequent screens that I couldn't get out of. So, as the laptop was still in warranty, I contacted the manufacturer, and the result of that was the laptop was returned for repair.

    The subsequent listed repairs were,

    operating system reinstalled

    mother board replaced

    DC in cable replaced.

The laptop has worked properly since its return and........

I can now access the files on my NAS drive from it!

I presume something relating to the reinstallation of the operating system has cured the NAS access problem.
