I found a DumpStack.log file in D:. However, I cannot open it even though I'm the admin. I also saw someone say its good to check the Minidump folder in C:, but I cannot find it either. Can someone help me with this?

    Hello, Harvey Nguyen

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I have carefully read the information and problem description you provided.

I understand the problem you are having. Normally, you cannot open the dump file directly. You need to install WinDbg before you can open these files for further analysis. You can click the link below to install this software.

The Minidump file path stores small dump files. They are usually only a few hundred KB. This is the easiest dump file to share. You can find it in the path below.

    Click "win+R" and enter "sysdm.cpl"

Enter System Properties and click the Advanced tab

Find Startup and Fault Repair and click Settings

In Write Debug Information, select Small Memory Storage

    The following directory will become

    "%SystemRoot%\Minidump"

    Dear Brian,

Thank you so much for your quick response.

I followed your instructions and installed WinDbg, but unfortunately, the app still cannot open the DumpStack.log file. Additionally, while I can now see the Minidump folder, nothing happens when I click on it.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood or missed a step in the process. I would really appreciate your guidance to help me figure this out.

    Looking forward to your insights.

    Best regards,

    Harvey

You're welcome. It's my job to help you.

If you need to analyze a blue screen problem, I don't recommend you to look at the DumpStack.log file. Usually, we will look at such a file, as shown in the figure below.

The suffix of this file is dmp. When your computer has a blue screen problem, the system will automatically generate a Dmp file. It will appear in this folder: "%SystemRoot%\Minidump". If the computer does not have a blue screen error or you have not chosen to enable the generation of MiniDmp before, then this file may not appear.

If you are learning how to solve a blue screen error, I suggest you check the content in the link below. Microsoft provides an article to help beginners.

I hope the information I provide is helpful to you.

    Best regards
