Azure Migrate Assessment - On premise NIC count results in VM sizes which are too large

We currently face some troubles with Azure Migrate and its suggestion on the target VM size. Our on-premise virtual machines all come with 3 network interfaces attached and Azure Migrate takes those into account when suggesting the virtual machine type in Azure. Therefore it is actually over-sizing the on-premise configuration, resulting in higher cost (at least for assessment and indication purposes). The plan is to have single NIC VMs once the migration is finished. Is there any way to change the assessment to actively ignore the NIC count on-premise? The only way around this I can think of is migrating based on the assessment first and then downsizing whilst removing NICs from the resulting Azure VMs. Might there be another option which I was unable to find?

@Braml, Joshua Thank you for contacting us and I apologize for the delayed response!

The network sizing happens as part of the overall sizing in the VM assessment. One workaround could be to import these VMs as a csv, modifying the number of NICs on-premises and running the assessment on that data. Though, for migration you will have to select the VM sizes manually as the assessment was created on the imported data and not the appliance.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

@Braml, Joshua We haven’t yet considered overriding network sizing in VM assessments, but happy to collect such feedback, you may share the same here.

For migration you could try the following:

    1. After the replication has started  Go to replicating machines

    1. Select the VM  click on compute and network

    1. Here in network interfaces section, you can select do not create against the NICs you don’t want to get created.

Though, please make sure that the VM size you had selected during replication does not necessarily need 3 NICs, so modify the VM size accordingly.
