I am upgrading my motherboard and cpu and would like to also replace the actual windows 10 ( crashes, freezes and in German) with a brand new one (dvd , english) that I had for a while. They re both windows 10 pro. But I want to keep my files, documents, settings etc from the old system. What would be the best way to approach this ?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you clean install Windows using that disk, then you will need to wipe the partitions form your drive, including the boot partition, the C drive partition and the recovery partition, that will delete all your data.

If you have a cloud storage app installed like OneDrive, Google Drive... etc. to sync your files online, then you can re-donwlaod your files from that cloud storage after re-installing Windows.

If you do not use cloud storage, you will need to copy out all your files to a USB before you re-install Windows.

With regards to settings, if you log into Windows using a Microsoft account and sync is enabled on your account, then your settings will be re-applied after you re-install Windows.
