Windows Update Installation Error 0x800f0905

Hi,

I've been trying to run WSL on my Huawei Laptop but it is not working anymore (it worked perfectly fine just until a few days ago). And I thought it may be because of the new update (2024-10 Kumulatives Update für Windows 11 Version 23H2 für x64-basierte Systeme (KB5044380)) not installing (Installationsfehler – 0x800f0905), it loads for a while at 50% and then stops. So I cleared the Cache and also tried installing the update manually - but without any success.

What can I do now?

Thank you.

    Dear Sapa02!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Don't worry, I will help you solve the problem together.

Thank you very much for describing your problem in detail. I completely understand how frustrating this situation is, especially when everything was working fine before. Don't worry, we will solve this problem together!

First, regarding the Windows update installation error, I have a suggestion that may help you:

Try to overwrite the installation with the latest Windows 11 ISO. This may sound a little scary, but it is not that complicated. This method can help you skip those 23H2 patches that may have problems. The good news is that the 24H2 version of Windows 11 has rolled out a fix, so using the latest ISO should solve the problem you are experiencing. Don't worry, this installation usually preserves your files and settings.

Disclaimer: It is recommended that you can repair the system directly through the ISO file. This is not a reinstallation of the system. It will repair your system and will not delete files or applications. But if there is important data on the computer, we still recommend backing it up in advance.

Once you have completed the backup, follow the steps in the guide below:

Visit the site below and click Download ISO for x64-bit devices.

-Download Windows 11 Download the ISO image of your language and run it

-When the ISO file is downloaded, double-click it to open it and run setup.exe

-Select "Not now" on the "Get updates, drivers, and optional features" page.

-Next Confirm your files, applications. Settings are preserved. It will also show you the Windows version it will install.

If you are asked to enter a key, it means that the ISO you downloaded does not match your current system version.

-On the "Choose what to keep" page, select "Keep files and applications".

-Click Install to start the non-destructive repair.

As for the WSL problem, I know it may be important to your work. Usually, simply removing and re-adding WSL can solve most problems. However, if you have a special configuration or usage, you may need more professional help.

I suggest you check out Microsoft's WSL community on GitHub. There are many experienced developers and users there who may have encountered similar problems and can give you more specific suggestions. microsoft/WSL · Discussions · GitHub

If you decide to try the ISO overwrite install, remember to back up your important data first, just in case. After the installation is complete, check that Windows Update is working properly before trying WSL again.

I know it can be frustrating to deal with these technical issues, but please be patient. If you need help with any step or have any questions, feel free to let me know.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

    Best regards,
