The sound is bad while using the microphone

Hello. Recently I bought some wireless over the ear headphones. Unfortunately, while I am on different calls like discord or meet, I either cant hear anything in the background or hear it but the sound quality is very poor and the call sound quality being the best

Until this headset i used some in ear wireless headphones that had the same problem. I solved the problem by going into control pabnel->printers and more devices and then on the properties of the earbuds-> services, where I disabled the handsfree telephony. At the moment i just needed the sound in them and I was using the laptops microphone. I wasn't planning to use the earbuds ones because they weren't so good.

After I bought my headphones, I noticed the same problem and did the same thing. After that I noticed that the microphone wouldnt work because of that. I tried to search in some souces what to do but they all lead me to the same thing. The problem is that I need to use the headphones's microphone, not the laptop one. I especially looked for the quality of it when browsing for the headset.

So you know what I can do in order to have a good sound quality of the call and background and simultaneously use the microphone of the headphones?

I'm really sorry about that. Windows defaults to using either the A2DP profile for high-quality audio output (with no mic support) or the HFP profile when a mic is needed, automatically switching between the two depending on the task. This switching is generally hard-coded into the Bluetooth stack, meaning applications themselves can’t usually override it.

I personally have been using exclusively bluetooth for almost 5 years now. I'm switching from Airpods Max, and a bluetooth reciever, with a seperate wireless lavalier microphone.

The issue is due to Bluetooth's limitation: Windows switches between high-quality audio (A2DP, no mic) and call audio with mic (HFP, lower quality).

At the moment, the only solution would be to use a seperate, wireless microphone if you want to still go fully wireless. This is the exact model of microphone that I use if you're interested. https://www.boyamic.com/product/by-v4

This is why EVERY SINGLE wireless gaming headset (where you want good stereo sound and mic at the same time) comes with their own wireless dongle.

Even if these wireless gaming headsets have bluetooth, they are for you to talk on the phone for phone calls.

If you are getting music cut out when you use your bluetooth headset, then it is going to be obs's or discord's AI noise cancellation software.

Hello there! I am Charity, I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you today!

My apologies about that. This would completely depend on what headphones that you are using. May I ask what is the headphone that you are using?

Windows handles Bluetooth audio like this :

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP): This profile is designed for high-quality stereo audio streaming, such as music playback. However, it does not support microphone input.

Hands-Free Profile (HFP): This profile supports both audio playback and microphone input, enabling two-way communication. However, it transmits audio in mono at a lower bitrate, resulting in reduced sound quality.

If you're only listening to music, it will switch to A2DP. You mentioned disabling HFP, Windows cannot switch to AFP when you're in discord.

To only mitigate this, you will need to have either a dedicated/seperate microphone (Like a wireless lavalier microphone if you still want to go full wireless)

Or a headset that is able to do both, which normally has it's own dedicated 2.4ghz USB dongle receiver.

    Kind Regards,

    Charity

Please note that things might need more than one reply to completely resolve your issue, as it will completely depend on the complexity of the question and the amount of detail that you have provided me.

The new headphones are Jbl Tune 720bt.

Wouldn't there be any way to keep the audio that you hear from the laptop if the handsfree telephony is off but the microphone to only work for an app in handsfree? Like I don't really get it why should it be limited like this. I looked specifically for the microphone to be a decent one that captures my voice clearly for any calls and meetings.

I believe if you look way deeper into the settings or the code you could make it right but its a load of searching.
