I know Windows 2000 is out of support for many years but in Windows 2012 R2 Active Directory I need to communicate to windows 2000 server in the same domain. There is someone who tested this scenario?

Hi,

I didn't have a Windows 2000 server for test since it is not supported long time ago.

Based on my research, even it can be added to the domain, there will be compatability problems such as the authentication, the SMB access and other unexpected issues.
It is suggested to upgrate the server.

infact I noted all domain accounts are written as SID (s-1-5-21-20455-....) in file system security even if I can browse all domain entries (both user and groups)

Due to acquiring a company we're having to connect a windows 2000 server to a windows 2012 R2 domain for a short period of time. We haven't done it yet but I tested the following in test

I created a windows 2012 R2 domain with a domain functional level of window 2012 R2

added a windows 2000 server to the domain. Added a windows 2008 R2 server to the domain and coppied files from the windows 2000 system to the 2008 R2 system. I was logged in as a domain account. I'm not sure if this is helpful but thought someone else should see my results.
