Removed Edge using the setup.exe options in the 'program files (x86) ...' directory. Gotten past the May update issue when Edge removed. Now dealing with event log error on startup. Appears to be some 'scheduled task' in regards to Edge or may be something else. Upon startup there is some process that is run from somewhere that tries to run Edge. When Edge has been uninstalled this generates an event log error. Is it possible to disable this process so the event log error does not appear? Here is the event log error message:

    Hi,
I suggest that you could reinstall then uninstall edge to check.
    Also perform a clean boot.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd
    Open the Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder.
Locate the MicrosoftEdge.exe and MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe files. Rename both files to something else of your choosing. For example, rename the files to blockMSEdge.exe and blockMSEdgeCP.exe.
By renaming the files, Windows will no longer be able to find the MicrosoftEdge.exe and MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe files, preventing Microsoft Edge from running.
Hope this helps and please help to accept as Answer if the response is useful.
    Best Regards,
    Carl

Digging deeper I now see how this error occurs. In Settings / Apps / Default apps / Web browser has 'Edge' listed although it is no longer installed. For this particular machine I do not use a web browser. Is there any way to set this to 'blank' in the registry or GPO like the other entries (EMail / Maps / Music player / etc)?
