Hello, I wanted to install an Antivirus but it won't install, so I used the command on the Command Prompt: "chkdsk /r" After That, I rebooted the computer, It said "Scanning and Repairing Device C:" But it didn't take long, it took only 5 seconds and it got back to the home screen, I don't think it is a good thing or a bad thing.

    Hi Sonic Plays,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on the original description, we understand that your device is unable to install antivirus software for unknown reasons.

The chkdsk command you executed is usually used to check for physical/logical problems with the disk itself.

The inability of the application to install is not necessarily related to file corruption, but may also be affected by some process interference or conflict.

If possible, would you mind sharing more information about this issue with us?

The information you share may help us to observe or test further.

    • Which antivirus software are you currently trying to install?
    • Were there any special events in the device before the situation first occurred? For example, system update, driver update, application update, BIOS update, firmware update?
    • Do you have any other antivirus software installed on your device?
    • Which version of Windows are you running(including OS Build information)? Which version of Windows operating system am I running? - Microsoft Support

To install the software in a state with fewer additional process interferences, you can try to configure a relatively clean device environment, such as Safe Mode, a new user profile.

If I misunderstand your situation, feel free to correct me and share the information.

    Best Regards,

Kyo.Y - MSFT | Microsoft Community Technical Support

No, I think there's corrupted files on the computer that's stopping the Antivirus installation.

Why would you use cmd and chkdisk prompt beacause some unknown app failed to install?
