You can no longer use a Windows 7 licence product key to activate Windows 10. Microsoft closed the loophole in Sept 2023 for both Windows 7 and 8. The official free upgrade was 2015 to 2016.

You will need to buy a Windows 10/11 licence to activate Windows 10.

    You cannot activate via email.

Do you mean using your Microsoft account. A lot depends on the type of licence you have.

    • Did you buy the licence originally separately from the device..
    • Was it a Windows 10 licence or previously Windows 7 or 8.
    • Was it provided by the device manufacturer. (OEM)
    • Did you buy a digital licence from the Store.

What has changed that requires you to activate or is this the first time you are trying to activate this device.
