Bitlocker on SSD external disk

Hello,

I had a computer that had a Windows 11 operating system, it had two disks on it, the C: disk where I had the operating system installed and a D: disk where I had very important personal files, I did not realize at what moment the encryption was activated on both disks, I changed the computer and when I put the external disk D: it appears blocked and asks me for the "Bitlocker", I have two questions.

  1. Is the same Bitlocker code for both disks C: and D:?
  2. If I put the D: disk back in the old computer will I be able to open it?

Was the old computer set it up by a different computer? This is cmmon for those who got the computer as a gift, or used model, or had the store set up for them.

If you set it up with school or work account, it is worth checking here as well https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey sign in with your work/school email credential in that case.

If you can't find it at all, there's really no way to crack it. Any attempt to do so is considered a violation of Microsoft's security measurement.

You will need to recall what account you used to set up that old computer.

then sign in via this link to see if the key was saved there:

    https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

There's no way to crack the code or get rid of the encryption unless you find the key. Sorry.

    Hello, this is Emily.

If your D drive is taken from another computer, you want the key stored in the account that set up that other computer initially. It is NOT the same as your C drive on the new computer.

You can put it back to the old computer, but due to the physical removal and then reconnect, it will still sill trigger the ask of bitlocker key.
