PC missing on network

So, my problem is this... When my pc was connected to my home hub using wi-fi, my laptop and my pc had no problems file sharing, etc. But, then, I had to relocate my pc to a point where it was on the edge of my wi-fi range. The signal became, as you can understand, unreliable. So, I, now, connect my pc to the home hub via ethernet...and now, my laptop can't find my pc on the network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have tried everything I can think of.

    Hi

Mote here an independent advisor checking in to see if I can add value to this issue.

Just as a quick summary of what we know so far to the best of my understanding:

    • PC & Laptops connected to home hub using wi-fi = no problem with file sharing
    • After relocating PC to edge of wi-fi range
      -> Wifi Signal became unreliable
    • To fix the signal unreliable Connected PC to network via LAN
Issue - no visibility between PC & Laptop on LAN

One way I can think of this being fixed via Wi-Fi is to get a Wifi Extender.

    Can you confirm...
on LAN can the pc access the internet?
on LAN can the pc access the internet but can't access the Laptop?

To test communication between Laptop and PC:

    • Open command prompt
    • type below code and press enter
      ping "computername"

If you can repeat the same between the computers to see if they can talk to each other and confirm that'll be ideal it'll indicate where the direction we need to take to fix this up.

    Let me know

    Cheers,
    Mote

    Hi, Mote.

Thanks for your reply and my apologies for not getting back sooner.

    Okay, to answer your questions:

Yes, Desktop connects via LAN with full internet access but will not communicate with Laptop.

Ping test in both directions positive result - Laptop successfully pinged Desktop and vice versa.

Wi-fi extender is not an option as there is no facility to install extender between LAN hub and Desktop. (Desktop is in workshop at bottom of garden).

    Regards,
