Issue Faced after installing SSD.

Hello Friends,

I gave my HP laptop to a shopkeeper to install SSD in my laptop. Instead of Moving my previous licensed Windows from HDD to New SSD he installed the new windows in that SSD.

Now I want to use my old licensed windows. How can I do that?

Should I remove the window installed by shopkeeper and move my old window file to New SSD? How can I do that??

Thanks,

Prakhar

    Hi Prakhar,

    Seems like a bad OS.

    >>the os and edition is different here. the new windows in New SSD

    The edition must match.

Nevertheless, do this. While it might not fix immediately, let me know when it is done. It might fix everything as well.

Try doing a repair install. A repair Install keeps everything, including Files and applications, and reinstalls Windows.

To do a repair install, just follow the steps below:

Download the Media Creation Tool from this link.

After the download finishes, open the tool and select Upgrade this PC option.

    Hi Prakhar,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

If the motherboard was the same, the license should activate. Sure he installed the same edition?

Get help with Windows 10/11 Activation errors:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/10738/...

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12440/...

    To better diagnose the issue,

    1. Right-click Start button and Choose Windows Powershell(admin) and type in the following command:

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

You will get a window, take a screenshot and send the same in the next reply.

    1. Run the activation troubleshooter and send us the output.
