August 2024 update issue

I have several Dell Laptops running Win11 that received the monthly patches this last Tuesday. All was well until the required reboot when the Ethernet connection stopped working. The WIFI still works but I always use the laptop via the port replicator.

Tasks completed with no positive results:

  • Ran the network troubleshooter. It responded that it could not get a DHCP address.
  • Disabled local firewall.
  • Rebooted the laptop again.
  • Ran the commands below: netsh int ip reset netsh winsock reset ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns netsh winhttp reset proxy
  • removed the Ethernet NIC driver and reinstalled from the Dell website.
  • Changed the NIC config from DHCP to a static IP.
  • Connected a USB Ethernet dongle, same issue.

I have no issues with the WIFI getting a DHCP address.

One of my laptops info:

Dell XPS

Edition Windows 11 Home

Version 23H2

Installed on ‎9/‎24/‎2022

OS build 22631.4037

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1027.0

The port replicator has the Ethernet NIC. This is fed by a switch which shows the network port as working.

When WIFI is enabled, there is no problem reaching the DHCP router. No other PC's have this issue even though they are on the same network switches.

Hello, welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. Based on your description, it seems you're experiencing an issue where the Ethernet is no longer updating after the latest update.

You mentioned that the problem started after installing the August cumulative update. Could you please check the update history to see if KB5041585 was installed?

If it was, please uninstall that update or roll your system back to a point before the update.

If the issue goes away after rolling back, it’s likely a compatibility problem caused by the update. Please report this issue to the technical support of your Ethernet card's manufacturer and ask them to look into it.

Also, I noticed that there's more community members has been reporting this issue, thus I havesubmitted this issue for you through internal channels. In addition, you canalso submit your questions through the FeedbackHub (if convenient, please provide as much detail as possible, includingpictures, videos, etc.). Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub appPlease share the feedback link after submitting, I will submityour feedback to the relevant team for investigation through internal channels.

Wishing your problem an early resolution
