Windows issue. It started with audio cutting out and finding out there was an update so I tried to update my windows but the update failed. And then when I tried again it would just stay on the updating screen with no progress. This led to me trying multiple things like safe boot, uninstalling the latest windows, system recovery, resetting the pc, troubleshooting. All of which would glitch out and not work or would find an issue it couldn’t solve. I even tried a sfc and a disk check. Nothing. This is a brand new computer too. What do I do?

I can reach the login screen but cannot enter a code as the error comes up. I attempted a system recovery and it said it couldn’t roll back to a version before this either:

I have never seen an update failure cause a PC to fail to log in. The problem may be bigger than an update failure.

Is your computer no longer reaching the login screen?

hi David, I would be happy to provide this information but this issue has escalated to the point I am not able to login to the pc due to the failed update stopping me from using my pin however when I try to reset I am faced with a buffering error. We have tried using shift + restart to access the pc reset menu but everytime we are stuck so we cannot even access the computer anymore.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Please provide more details about the issue you are experiencing when trying to update Windows.

Are you getting an error code? If yes, which one?

If it is a specific update, let me know the KB number of the update displaying the error.

If you don't get an error code, see the update history.

    • Press "Windows + I" and select "Windows Update > Update history".

If you prefer, share a screenshot. Use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

Also. What is the current version and "OS Build" of your Windows 11?

    • Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

If you prefer, share a screenshot.
