Windows Update is disabled

I cannot update Windows 10 because Windows Update service is disabled and I can't enable it.

Here are things I tried to fix this problem:

  1. I opened services, Windows Update, and put Startup type to Automatic. However, I am just notified "Access is denied"
  2. I opened Registry Editor. Went here:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

I clicked on start and changed the value data to 2 but I just receive an error message.  "Cannot edit Start: Error writing the value's new contents"

  1. I opened task manager, went to services tab, located wuauserv, and right clicked to press start but nothing happened. The status remained on "Stopped".
  2. I tried running the troubleshooter for windows update but it just says "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".

I encountered an additional problem due to this, I cannot use Microsoft store to update certain applications.
