Windows Update Issue (Multiple Error Codes, most recent 0x800f0922)

Hello,

For the past few weeks Windows update has been saying "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes." and lists updates KB5040427 and KB5040525 as required updates. However, when I go to install these updates it gets to 99% and then throws an error saying "We could not complete the updates." Upon re-opening the windows update window, it will throw one of a few errors regarding some vague windows update issue (most recent error code in the question) which does not narrow down the issue that I am having to its root cause.

Things I have tried to fix this issue:

Built-in windows update troubleshooter

SFC and DISM repairs

disabling, resetting, and re-enabling the windows update services

Checking my system partition

Windows media creation tool

I doubt this is a hardware issue, but just in case I am using an ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503QR. I did install additional ram and another SSD, but I am using the SSD that came with the computer for the windows installation.

Despite my best efforts, my computer will not update, and the worst part is that I cannot use the computer normally because Michael Soft will automatically try to update my computer every time I turn it off, which is a huge waste of my time and is squandering what is left of my sanity.

If update logs are needed to aid in the diagnosis, I will post them via One Drive or Google Drive.

Thanks, Domenico.

Try doing a repair install. A repair Install keeps everything, including Files and applications, and reinstalls Windows.

    Hi,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Let us find the root cause of the problem.

To simplify things, please download and let the update fail once. It will leave a trace for the failure.

    Then, do the following:

Open your File Explorer and go to your system drive, which is commonly C drive.

    Navigate to Windows>Logs>CBS folder.

You may need to check the Hidden items option under the View tab in tool bar to show the Logs folder.

Right-click on the CBS.log file and select Copy.

    Paste it to your desktop.

Go to your OneDrive account and upload CBS.log from the Desktop.

Share the link of the CBS log and post it in the next reply.

    Hello Sumit,

I checked the App readiness service and it was not started. I manually started it and tried updating, but the update did not complete. I then changed the service from Manual to Automatic start, restarted my computer, verified that it was running, and then tried updating again.

Despite all this, the update still refused to complete. Here is the most recent update log:

    CBS new.log

Thanks again for your continued help,

    Domenico

    Hi Domenico,

As expected, it is an error of the component Store.

    20:54:09, Info CSI 0000262d ==Error Summary End==

2024-08-01 20:54:09, Error CBS Startup: Failed to process advanced operation queue, startupPhase: 0. A rollback transaction will be created. [HRESULT = 0x800f0922 - CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED]

What is the status of the App readiness service?

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.

    Type services.msc and press Enter.

In the Services window, scroll down to find "App Readiness".

Check the "Status" column for "App Readiness":

If it says "Disabled," the service is disabled.

If it says "Running" or "Stopped," the service is not disabled.

To confirm, right-click "App Readiness" and select "Properties."
