Every month or so my computer now is going through an update when I sleep and I will awake to a computer that, when it turns on, mouse, keyboard and screen won't work. Nothing I do helps- heck even the power button doesn't work to turn it back off... I can't even access the startup menu or get anything at all.

I take it to the store and they say they had to Reset the bios and drivers on the actual Motherboard to reinstall drivers via usb... i had to wair 3 days for this service too... why am I doing nothing and my drivers continuously bricking my PC? It feels like I'm being robbed every time I randomly have this happen and have to fork out $100...?????

    Dear James Quesnel,

Hello! Welcome to the Microsoft Community. I'm glad to be able to assist you. If I misunderstand your question, please let me know promptly.

I understand that your computer updates approximately once a month, but this update causes your computer to crash. I understand your frustration at having to spend money on repairs due to the update issue.

Due to the poor compatibility of the computer, updates sometimes cause performance issues, but they generally do not lead to major incidents. As you mentioned, I believe the problem might be caused by driver updates. A simple and effective solution would be for you to try disabling automatic driver updates.

To disable driver updates for Windows 11, you can modify the registry.

Here are the steps: Open the Run window, type “regedit” and press Enter to open the Registry Editor. Find the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

If there is no WindowsUpdate folder in this path, you must create one. Right-click on the “Windows” folder, select “New” > “Key” and name it “WindowsUpdate”. WindowsUpdate”. In the WindowsUpdate folder, right-click on an empty area, select New > DWORD (32-bit) value and name it ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate.

Double-click the ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate element and set the value to 1.

Restart the computer and the changes will take effect immediately.

In this way, Windows 11 will not push the driver automatically.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. I hope the above information can help you. If you have any progress or ideas, such as you want to solve the problem of crash, please feel free to contact me.

    Best Wishes
