Desktop keep randomly freezing

I have a Dell XPS 8940 which keeps randomly freezing.

It's fully updated with all the firmware and windows updates and the browser is fully updated

It has almost no programs - it's used entirely for browsing and watching videos and streaming.

Outside of the Edge Browser it only has the Netflix app

I did a reset to factory settings reinstall - it did not alleviate the issue

I ran Dell's hardware diagnostic - no hardware issues found

Any ideas for a fix would be appreciated

    Sorry about the delayed response.

    1. Yes, that is correct. it can tell you if your RAM is having issues.
    2. It means that you will remove the RAM in your computer, then plugging it in again, if possible, if you have two slots, putting it on a different slot.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

    Thanks for your reply

    To confirm:

    1. If the memory is failing or defective, the diagnostic tool will tell me?
    2. What do you mean by "reseating my RAM"

Thank you for the information. This is most likely either failing or defective RAM.

Please proceed with the steps below.

Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.

    Type mdsched.exe and press Enter.

A window will appear with two options: "Restart now and check for problems (recommended)" and "Check for problems the next time I start my computer."

Choose "Restart now and check for problems (recommended)."

Your computer will restart and the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool will automatically run.

The tool will perform a standard test by default. You can press F1 to access more options, such as different test mixes and cache settings.

The memory test will run and might take some time to complete, depending on the amount of RAM in your system.

Once the test is complete, your computer will restart again.

If your PC is still freezing, I would suggest re-seating your RAM, or if you have 2 RAM sticks, please remove one stick and test.

Thank you for your response Charity

I reset it to factory settings - there are virtually no files or programs and the one or two I reinstalled after the factory reinstall

It is not restarting so I am seeing no blue screens

    It is freezing

Hello there! I am Charity, I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you today!

My apologies about that. Since you mentioned that you have done a reinstall, did you do an install and delete all data?

May I also ask if you're getting any blue screens when it restarts? Or just it just restarts?

    Kind Regards,

    Charity
