The computer is stuck on a black screen saying “Preparing Windows” with the error message “Windows could not determine the language to use for setup” and error code 0x4000505. This happened after I reset it, and it remains stuck. If I press Enter, it boots up to the same screen. Please help.

    Hello aidan,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

I understand that you are having problems resetting your PC and setting it up again. The error message "Windows could not determine the language to use for setup" with error code 0x4000505 indicates that the Windows setup process is unable to determine which language to use, possibly due to corrupted or missing language files.

In this case, I recommend trying to install Windows 11 by following these instructions:

If you're fine with losing any remaining files, you can proceed with a clean install of Windows 11 from a Bootable installation media drive.

To create a Bootable installation media, you will need a different computer (Working one) to do this.

    1. Plug in an empty USB drive (min 8GB) to a working computer.
    2. Download the Windows 11 Media creation tool from the link below.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    1. Run the Media creation tool and Uncheck the Use the recommended options for this PC box to select the appropriate language and edition.
    2. Select the bootable USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space that you have prepared to use, then select Next. Reminder: any content on the USB flash drive will be deleted.
    3. The USB device will be formatted, and the Windows installation media will be placed on the USB flash drive.
    4. The USB flash drive will now serve as bootable Windows 11 Installation Media. Select Finish.

Once ready, You may now clean install Windows 11 on your problematic device from the installation media you created on the USB flash drive.

    1. Attach the USB flash drive to the PC on which you want to clean install Windows 11.
    2. Restart your PC and continuously press F12 or ESC or DEL key to launch the boot options and select your USB drive.

. (You can refer the Manufacturer website to see how to boot the USB on your PC)

    1. On the Windows Setup page, select your language, time and keyboard preferences and then select Next.
    2. Select Install Now.
