Accidentally changed a default program in files and now all files don't work properly

Okay so a few months back I was messing around in my files and accidentally changed the default program for one app, which resulted in all of my app's default programs to change to the one. I tried going into the control panel to change it there but nothing has worked. I even went into safe mode to try and fix it there, that didn't work either. If I try to change the default program for just one application it changes it for all of them. I genuinely don't know what else to do, should I just factory reset at this point? I'm using windows 7 pro
