RDS Assistance for DNS HA

Hi All,

I'm hoping you can help.

Currently we have a Win Server 2016 setup of 1 x RDS Connection Broker (licensing server) and 3 x Session Host Servers. Currently users will RDP to Remote App and once connected it'll open an Explorer window to display their applications (split by libraries). This is working successfully however, currently DNS round robin is setup with an entry added for each RDS Session Host. The Connection Broker is distributing the connections as it should to all 3 servers.

I'm in preparation to setup a HA Connection Broker and having read information about this setup it appears as though round robin is required for the 2 brokers. Obviously in doing so, this will break what I have already got setup as the round robin farm name is pointing at the session hosts. I feel like I might be missing something somewhere, what I'd like to do is to use the connection brokers load balancing to do the directing rather than round robin, but how do I switch from the round robin setup as it is now, to using the connection brokers instead? Is there a registry setting\group policy setting that may need to be set somewhere?

Thanks in advance,

A

    Hello @AC

As far as I know there's no need to add round robin to RDSH, just add session host to the collection (farm), the RDCB will do load balancing.

The roles within a Remote Desktop Services environment and their function: Remote Desktop Services roles

Add the RD Connection Broker server to the deployment and configure high availability

    Best Regards
    Karlie

Figured it out, you dont require DNS entries for the collection name. You download the RDP icon from RDWeb and it will have all of the config regarding the brokering/collection.
If you create the RDP icon from using MSTSC.exe this wont work since it wont have all of the config from the RDweb icon.
