HI, I have a big problem that came out of nowhere yesterday, I was working on my PC and suddenly I no longer could open photos the app has crashed, then suddenly on my taskbar the START button stopped working, WIFI options, sound and calendar, other apps like calculator also do not work. I started reading only many articles but did not find even one solution that would work, the Microsoft store doesn't work and when I go to Apps & features it is not on the list, I tries resetting photos and calculator but didnt help. yesterday I made a hard decision to reinstall windows with keeping my files and it worked, it started working again right until the first updates were installed!!! then it stopped again. I tried already running troubleshoots, I tried checking commander, many options from the internet but nothing works. The photo app gives a msg that app didnt start, the rest after clicking just wont open at all and no msg. One last thing I tried is to try to add a family member to use a different account but it doesnt let me create it, just like I cannot switch wifi, I click and doesnt work. so it is hopeless coz the only option I am left is to switch to windows 11. and I dont want it!!!!!! I just finished installing my programs back, I am exhausted I dont want a new windows version, any advice? thanks in advance

Great, I am happy that worked. I recommend using the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter to hide the recent July update. Windows Update won’t install hidden updates. Run the troubleshooter then please try to hide the Cumulative Update KB5040427 that will show in the list. You may try restarting your pc if it helps.

Please try to return to the login screen

While holding the Left Shift key, click the Power icon at the bottom right > Restart

This will bring you to Windows Recovery Environment

Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Uninstall Updates

Uninstall latest quality update

If this doesn't work, Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore

Select the restore point at an earlier date where everything is still working.

Click Next then Finish

    Dear John DeV,

Thank you so much for your reply and for your help!!!! I have been really stressed with this and your help is so very appreciated!

So the method 1 did not work for me, it did not fix anything. But Method 2 - with system restore did a miracle!!! It fixed the issues, at least for now, the only negative side is that my installed back programs are gone again and have to reinstall a lot but otherwise it seems to be fine, hopefully will not happen again!!! I am very grateful!!!

    Best wishes,

    Anastasija O
