Hello,

My windows 11 laptop has 2 user accounts, and the OS for user #1 is compromised, and would not let me download or update some apps, which was why I created the second user account to finish my task.

Now, If i change/ update the OS for the first user account, will it wipe out the data on the second window 11 user's account, where I transfered all my files to?

Thank you.

    Hello Gee2024,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

Changing or updating the operating system for the first user account on your Windows 11 laptop should not erase the data on the second user account. Windows updates and changes to one user account generally do not affect other user accounts or their data.

If you are having trouble downloading or updating apps on User Profile 1, probably it might be corrupted. Compromised is when someone has access to your device or files.

You can copy the files from the previous profile:

    1. Open File explorer.
    2. Select Local Disk C: drive, click users > username.
    3. Select your Old user profile (#1) and copy all the folders.
    4. Now, go to your New user profile (#2) and paste them.

    • Once you moved all the files to the second user profile, you can delete the first user profile by,

    a. Type netplwiz in the search bar on the taskbar and click enter.
    b. Select the user profile you want to remove.
    c. Click remove.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.
