Network icon not correct

I work in a software company, where we use WiFi as a commucication tool for our network. In this network, there is no internet available (on purpose).

When we Connect to this network, the network icon shows a globe with a symbol that it is not connected.

This is very confusing, because we are connected to the network but have no internet.

Is there a possibility to change this configuration, when to show which icon?

Thanks

    Hi,
For my understanding, your confusing may be caused by Windows NCSI workflow.
Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) is designed to be responsive to network conditions, so it examines the connectivity of a network in a variety of ways. One test failed, NCSI may report an error, even if the networking actually can be accessed fully.
Since you mentioned “when to show which icon”, down below are the sorts of network status taskbar icons which tell the user whether network is fully available, and I think you are facing picture 3.

    Full internet over wired

Not connected or No Internet access

If you want to fix it, here is my advice you can try: go to Registry Editor,
    RegPath: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator
    RegKey: UseGlobalDns=1
    Type: DWORD
    Set Value data for 1.

    Restart the machine.

Please let me know if you could fix this problem by doing so.

    Hello,

I believe, this is by design! AFAIK, when you're connected a network but it doesn't actually have network access, Windows may show the connection as limited, or No internet. However, you can still perform local network operations. This is quite common on my AD environment setup.

If you like, you can drop a feedback to Microsoft on this, using the Feedback hub.

    Good luck!
