Slow computer

Question

My computer is extremely slow at start-up and programs (excel, browsers) freeze frequently. Is there some maintenance I should be doing or a program I can use to solve these issues? I'm using Windows 10 v.22H2.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Generally what makes a PC slow is what is running on your PC (software), if there is too much running that will make your PC slow

Do you have a 3rd party security suite, or Anti-virus running on your PC?

If so, that is the usual cause of slow Windows, download the removal tool the developers of that security suite provide and uninstall it form your PC, then restart your PC and let Windows Security protect you

If you have any other utilities like a Registry cleaner or PC cleaner . . .etc. uninstall those form your PC

Turn off all unnecessary startup applications and processes:

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

Click on the Startup Tab

See any non-essential items are listed there

If so, select and click 'Disable'

Close Task Manager

Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter

When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab

Very Important, check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services' to ensure you do not disable any Microsoft services.

In the remaining list, see any non-essential items are listed there, uncheck any you find

Click Apply and OK

Turn off all unnecessary Background Apps

Open the Settings App

Go to Privacy - Background Apps

Turn off any App you do not need running in the background

Restart your PC
