MS Authenticator Issue

Hi,

I have a new phone, and I have MS Authenticator installed. I still have my old phone and I have around 3-4 accounts in there that I need to bring over to my new device,

I am logged in on both devices, I have created a backup on my old device, But I'm not sure how to get them onto the new device, there is no "restore backup" button.

In settings there is a "Cloud Backup" button I can press.. but that just creates a new backup and overrides the current one, (which I don't want )

Can anyone help. ?

PS: I know this "product" is not Windows, but you didn't have any product options for Apps.

David, thank you for your reply.

You can restore from a backup, but ensure no accounts have been added to the newly installed app. Then, sign in with the recovery account to perform the restore.

"You can recover your account credentials from your cloud account, but you must first make sure that the account you're recovering doesn't exist in the Microsoft Authenticator app. For example, if you're recovering your personal Microsoft account, you must make sure you don't have a personal Microsoft account already set up in the authenticator app. This check is important so we can be sure we're not overwriting or erasing an existing account by mistake."

    Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

I understand that you are trying to restore your Microsoft Authenticator credentials to your new mobile device.

Note: You can only back and restore on the same device type: i.e. accounts backed up using an iOS device cannot be restored on an Android device.

May I please know if it is an iOS or Android device?

    • For Backup up - In an iOS device, tap settings and select iCloud backup toggle under backup.

    • For Android - Go to settings and enable cloud backup under backup.

    Restore accounts on new device:

    1. To Restore accounts, open Authenticator, and select Begin Recovery.
    2. Sign in to your recovery account using the personal Microsoft account you used during the backup process. Your account credentials are recovered to the new device.
