Can I use E3 licenses to enable Azure AD Password Writeback?

Hi there,

I saw a blog say that to use Azure AD Password Writeback you must have one of the following licenses assigned on your tenant.

Azure AD Premium P1
Azure AD Premium P2
Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 or A3
Enterprise Mobility + Security E5 or A5
Microsoft 365 E3 or A3, Microsoft 365 E5 or A5, Microsoft 365 F1
Microsoft 365 Business

Is the above correct? We have E3 licenses and I need to confirm if we will have to upgrade them to P1 to enable the password writeback.

Best regards,
VF

    Hi @Vanessa Farias ,

    Thanks for the post!

Yes, if you have Enterprise Mobility + Security E3, that includes Azure Active Directory Premium P1.

Self-service password reset/change/unlock with on-premises write-back requires an Azure AD Premium P1 license.

Cloud-only user password change (non-sspr) with password writeback can be done with the free version, but this doesn't include SSPR.

You should be good to go based on what you have.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @MarileeTurscak,

    Thank you for your answer.

We have the Microsoft 365 E3 license. So, based on your post, we will have to upgrade the license to be able to use the Azure AD Password writeback (hybrid: cloud + on-premises).

    Best regards,
    VF
