Set Default App By File Type

I have some music files, a .mid, .sib and .mxl

The .mid is predefined by Win 10 as a "Windows Media Player" (???????). I cant change it as the only two options are (1) Windows Media Player and (2) "Look For an App in the Windows Store" (????)

Ya, I already have a very expensive music notation software program installed and those are my two options????

There doesn't seem to be a way (intuitively) to choose the correct program. Even other extensions you can choose from explorer, but that's so 1990. There's already a long list of programs available in Apps, why cant we just have that listed and choose one from there?? Done, easy! It's 2024 and we're still encumbered by this type of amateurish nonsense?

Contrary to what MSFT may think, we use many other programs, as adults, other than Xbox.

Sorry I doubted you but I did mean I can't believe MS are restricting that function. It is there in Windows 11 and I know it was available in Windows 10 previously so I don't know which update changed that.

In File Explorer right click a mid or midi file and select Open with. From the list Choose another app then more apps (scroll to the bottom of the list) then look for another app on this PC, be sure to select to Always open.

Sorry, but with all due respect, how can you not believe that is the case when that's what I'm seeing?

Well I don't believe that is the case. I'll check again tomorrow but I'm fairly sure you should see blue text for Choose an app on your PC.

    Hi.

    Nope

    (1) Windows Media Player or (2)"Look For an App in the Windows Store"

Very useful isn't it? You can only use MSFT programs.
