Hi, I've just had an idea. Could I not use a media creation tool to reinstall windows but keep my files. I believe when I used it last time to reinstall on my laptop there was an option where you can keep all your data. Only reason I can think this wouldn't work is maybe signing in when setting up windows again. Also, I'm not sure what files it would save and if it would possibly delete anything. Thoughts on this?
Cannot log into pc after CPU upgrade.
I've just upgraded my CPU in my pc and so windows asked me to set up a log in pin again. To do this however, I need to sign into my Microsoft account. When I try to log in though, I need to verify a code in authenticator or by email. None of the devices I own are logged into authenticator and this is because whenever I try to, it asks to verify in authenticator or by emailed code. But I've never received any of the emails to any email address that could be linked to my account so I can't log in. There was an option that if none of those work, I can change account security info so did but didn't know it takes 30 days to change. I can't cancel the request either because I need to confirm in authenticator. What can I do? Do I just not use my pc for 30 days? If something can be fixed regarding verification emails actually being sent then I'd like the security data request to be cancelled as I cannot do so myself. Help would be appreciated thanks.

2024-07-20T13:22:10+00:00 Oh well that's annoying. I guess I can just get a cheap 128gb sata ssd to run off for now as I have work I have to do. Thanks for trying to help though.

2024-07-20T10:58:47+00:00 If you didn’t download the app before the problem occurred then you’d not be able to set it up. If you did but deleted the app then there should be an option to recover the accounts (only if the app was backed up to the phone’s cloud options).
Is there any other device on which you may still be signed in?
In the end you most likely will need to wait the 30 days - this is a security feature & Microsoft cannot speed this up.

2024-07-20T10:47:48+00:00 Hello, I'm not entirely sure if I'm using 22H2 or 23H2 but I know it's windows 11 pro if that helps, with all latest updates installed as well. I am using the official Microsoft authenticator app, the issue is I can't sign in to add an account to set up the app in the first place because after I put my password in, it asks me to select a further step of verification, either using authenticator or by an emailed code, and since I can't sign into authenticator, I have to use the email option, but whenever I have tried, I've never received the email. Signing in does offer password, but requires further authentication afterwards, which isn't working. I also have checked all spam and junk folders and there was still no emails in them either. I'm not really sure what I can do

2024-07-20T10:26:03+00:00 Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.
Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10/11 build are you running - 22H2 (Win 10/Win 11) or 23H2 (Win 11)?
I understand you’re having problems with authenticating your account, Don’t worry as I’ll do my best to assist you today.
Unfortunately the 30 day waiting period cannot be circumvented.
Which authentication app are you using? I use the Microsoft app & I was only asked to sign in to the account on setting it up. I’ve not known it to ask for the account details since. If not the MS authenticator app perhaps the app you’re using is asking for the specific app’s sign in details - Google etc.
Does sign in (on your account or in the app) offer the option to use your password instead?
Have you checked the spam/bulk mail folder for the authentication email?
