Problem Casting

I have several Surface Pro 9s Windows 11 laptops that successfully connect to a Miracast enabled screen and 2 that do not. All the SP9s have the same image.

The 2 that don't work have had their display and network drivers updated to the latest versions. On the screen I am connecting to, it says it is trying to connect but eventually fails. The working Windows 11 laptops all come up with a code when trying to connect but the 2 failing laptops don't.

It seems that I can't get the final handshake and I don't know why.

All Windows 10 laptops connect successfully.

    Hi WayneRJ.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to learn that you still haven't resolved your issue after performing a reset. I do understand your frustration in not resolving the issue after putting in a lot of effort. But test results like this show that the problem is not due to the system.

You can check out the requirements for Windows Projection in Windows 11 at the link below (requires a display adapter which supports Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 2.0 and a Wi-Fi adapter that supports Wi-Fi Direct)

Additionally, you can do a troubleshooting via the following link

If the above troubleshooting doesn't help you, then please send us a feedback on the issue (refer to the link in the previous reply) and share the feedback link with us.

I hope the above can help you, if you have any other questions, please continue to contact me, thank you for your support and understanding.

Hi Zev. I ran a full cloud reset on the Surface and tested the casting with no luck. I then ran the updates to see if that helped - it didn't. Still unable to cast to the monitor with the Microsoft Display Adapter. Just a thought, does Windows 11 require a 4K adapter?

Hi Zev. Thanks for your input.

All went well until step 5 (Here in Settings>System>Project to this computer, manage the Projection Preferences and set it to Launch the Wireless Display app via Wireless Display.)

Although it says the laptop is ready to connect wirelessly, I tried connecting again to the wireless display - no luck.

Tried pressing Ctrl + S to open settings but no data showed up and nothing could be done on that screen.

Unfortunately, I still have the same problem.

    P.S. Is a 4K dongle required?

    Hi WayneRJ.

Thank you for reaching out here in the Microsoft Community.

In your description, some of your laptops are unable to connect to other screens via Miracast. When they fail after trying to connect for some time.

We suspect that this may be a problem with the relevant components on these 2 computers, please refer to the following steps to reset them

1 Tap the Windows key + I to open Settings

2 In Settings, tap System, and then scroll down to find Optional Features and tap into it.

3 In the optional features, find Wireless Display, and then delete this feature.

4 After removing it, restart your computer, and then install the wireless monitor on your computer by going through the same steps.

5 Here in Settings>System>Project to this computer, manage the Projection Preferences and set it to Launch the Wireless Display app via Wireless Display.

Also, please check in Settings>Applications>Installed Apps (or System Components) to see if there is any related software, and if so, uninstall and reinstall it.

Please check if the same problem occurs after that.

I hope the above can help you, if you have any other questions, or the above did not help you, please continue to contact me, I will provide you with further assistance, thank you for your support and understanding.

    Best regards,
