Autopilot V2

I am unable to perform the autopilot-v2 because "Device shouldn't be registered or added as a Windows Autopilot device - if the device is registered or added as Windows Autopilot device, the Windows Autopilot profile takes precedence over the Windows Autopilot device preparation policy" I have removed the device and deleted it from all the places but some reason Autopilot takes precedence over prepration. could not find any info to bypass autopilot and opt for prepration policy. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/autopilot/device-preparation/overview#enrollment-time-grouping

we don't use GPO in our environment. we are purely cloud-based.

Unfortunately, there currently isn't a way to directly identify a device that requires Autopilot V2 device preparation or enforce it as mandatory.

There's a slight chance a local policy on the device might be forcing Autopilot V1. While less likely after a full reinstall, it's worth checking. Here's how:

Open the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Autopilot.

Look for policies related to Autopilot mode or pre-provisioning.

If you find anything related to Autopilot V1, try disabling it (though proceed with caution as this might affect other devices).

    Hi Johrelle

    Thanks for replying.

I have performed the deletion multiple times with different scenarios but resulted in the same result where Autopilot takes precedence over the device preparation policy. It's mentioned in your article as well https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/autopilot/device-preparation/overview (requirement) section however there is no solution defined to overcome this except removing this device which I have done multiple times.

I have tried the following -

    1. wipe the device and remove the device (serial number) from the Windows Autopilot section. Didnt work
    2. delete the device from the device section, and remove the device (serial number) from the Windows Autopilot section. Didnt work
    3. reinstall Windows from scratch and follow the Autopilot v2 but it goes to the Autopilot-v1 provisioning process itself.
    4. Is there a way to identify or make device preparation mandatory?

    Thanks

Hello Sunny, I'm Johrelle a fellow Windows/Microsoft user. I'm happy to assist you.

Ensure you've removed the device from all relevant locations, including:

Intune: Look for the device under "Devices" and delete it permanently.

Azure Active Directory: Check if the device is still associated with any users or groups.

Hardware Hash Registration: If you previously registered the device's hardware hash for Autopilot V1, deregister it using the Autopilot Reset Tool (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/autopilot/win...).
