Mouse cursor large

I made a fresh install of Windows 11, as I was having issues beforehand.

Upon getting back into the system, the mouse is set to an abnormally large size compared to what I'm used to on this monitor that I use.

Screen resolution is 1080p, with NO scaling active.

Go to the mouse settings, they're set to the smallest possible. Go to cursor selection, I'm told certain cursors are unavailable or corrupt (which is weird, because I've never customised the cursors in the first place, AND this is a complete FRESH install of Windows 11). Select smallest cursor inverted. Too large. Select another cursor that is the smallest. Still too large. Go into accessibility, slider is set to the lowest it can go.

This is on the latest version of Windows 11, with all updates as of yesterday. So if it is an issue with my install, then it is 100% Microsoft's fault.

any updates on this? I have the same issue; after sleep/restart, the pointer is reset to a giant size (as big as the taskbar). what I do is go into settings-accessibility-mouse and change the size (it's already the smallest, but the config is ignored, so I have to make it big and then small again).

this is happening on a clean install/freshly updated W11 on a surface pro 11

EDIT: I can easily reproduce the issue if I go into the old mouse settings menu and change anything in there. the options for pointers are all large or extra large and if any is selected, the thumbnails for every pointer case looks weird.

EDIT 2: I think the mouse is resetting to it's huge size even after I touch the screen (with fingers, or pen)

EDIT 3: so if I go to settings - accessibility - mouse pointer and change the size to max (which is ridiculous) and then I touch the screen, it gets as big as 1/3 of the screen :))

EDIT 4: POSSIBLE WORKAROUND I played around with Settings - System - Display - Scale; the default was 200%, changed it around and then back to 200%, now if I touch the screen, pointer stays the same size

Alright, so I was having the same issue as you. Basically after every restart the mouse cursur got big, even though the size was "1" in the settings. I searched for answers on multiple forums, but nothing really did the trick. Until I found a video today which seems to "fix" the problem.

I turned off fast startup in the control panel, so Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do -> Change settings that are currently unavailable -> uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended).

This seems to have fixed the cursor problems, like the size and custom cursor changing to the default one when changing the size back to small.

    Hope this helps!

I had the same problem - not sure if was a issue with an update or my cat (who is gifted at changing settings by walking on my keyboard). Anyways. I found how to change it. Go to "Magnifier" in settings. Then go down to where you see "Zoom increment" and change it to 100%. Mine was somehow 400%. At 100%, the mouse cursor is back to normal. Hope this helps

I also tried it but I don't think it is permanently solved. Has it gone bigger after that?

    Hello, Disgruntled Windows 11 User

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thanks for your feedback. I read the information you provided. You mentioned that your mouse cursor is too large.

This is indeed very strange, and usually, this problem does not occur after a new installation of Windows.

So, can you send me a comparison picture of the mouse cursor that is too large? This will help me better understand your problem.

I look forward to your reply.

    Best regards
