Thank you very much for your reply. I am going to carefully follow your instructions!
One important question though: if I use the link to create a full win10 ISO and then upgrade the OS on my PC then would my non OS data be unharmed?
Many thanks

Hello, Bahman Shayanfar.
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I noticed that you encountered the error 0x80070643 when updating Windows.
For this error, if your device is running a full version of Windows 10 Home or Pro (not a Preview Experience version), you may want to perform a non-destructive repair of your system using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, and see if the Windows Update Failure issue is fixed after the repair.
(If the repair is successful, Windows will automatically update to the latest version, so you don't have to perform the update manually again.)
You can download the Media Creation Tool from the following link:
Create an ISO file for Windows 10 - Microsoft Support
If the media creation tool doesn't solve your problem either, you can try to manually resize the partition to install the WinRE update.
(When the WinRE recovery environment is low on space, you will encounter error code 0x80070643 when updating)
This link details the process of manually resizing partitions, which you can refer to.
I hope the information I have provided will help you.
Best Regards.
