Continuous Lagging After Windows Update

I recently got a windows 10 update on the 7th of May, and now my PC lags a lot. Especially my browsers, they lag to the point that they stretch and cover the taskbar. Even when I am not running any other application. I tried Recovering the previous update but the option is greyed out, and it hasn't been 10 days since i got the update.

Below is the updates:

  1. 2024-KB5037724 Cumulative update preview for .NET framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for windows 10, Version 22H2.
Windows for home | Windows 10 | Windows update

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I understand that your developer version of Firefox lags from time to time after updating and during the repair process, I found that Firefox has a very high RAM usage.

    I suggest you try:

    Update Firefox browser.

Uninstall Firefox browser and reinstall it.

Thanks again for your feedback and your interest in the Microsoft community, I hope the above information is helpful.

    Best Regards!

Hello and welcome to Microsoft Community!

After reading your description, I understand that your browser is lagging significantly after your May 7 Windows 10 update. I am very sorry that this update has caused you such an inconvenience.

It is also important for you to note that you do not have the option to roll back to the previous version status until 10 days after the updated version.

Your description also mentions that your browser is lagging and covering the taskbar, I need to confirm with you if the browser you are using is Microsoft Edge or some other kind of browser. If you can provide more information and screenshots, that would be great!

We can try something simple first.

Use Task Manager to shut down memory-hogging processes.

    1. Open Task Manager.

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
    • Or right-click on the taskbar and select "Task Manager".

    2. Switch to the "Details" tab.

    • This tab will show you all the running processes and their memory usage.

    3. Sort the processes by memory usage.

    • Click on the "Memory" column header to sort the processes by memory usage in descending order.
    • This allows you to quickly find the process with the largest memory footprint.

    4. Select the processes you want to shut down.

    • Find the process with the highest memory usage and select it.

    5. End the process.

    • Click the "End Task" button at the bottom of the Task Manager window.
    • Or right-click on the process and select "End Process".

    6. Confirm Close: The system will prompt you to confirm the end of the process.

    • You will be prompted to confirm ending the process, select "Yes". 7.

    7. Observe memory usage.

    • After closing the process, you can observe the change of memory usage in the task manager.
    • If the memory usage is still high, you can repeat the above steps to close other processes that consume a lot of memory.

    Caution.

    - Before closing a process, please make sure that it is not a critical process, otherwise it may cause the system to crash.

    - If you are not sure what a process does, you should not close it easily.

    - If you are not sure what a process does, it is better not to close it easily. If you can't close a process, you can try to reboot your computer to free up the memory.

I would still recommend that you provide me with your browser information, which can help me make better recommendations based on your browser.

Alternatively, you may choose to go back to the previous version after a few days and observe if the problem persists.

These are some of the suggestions I can give you at this time and I look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards!

Thank you so much for your help. The browser in question is the "Firefox Developer Edition Browser", I recently switched to it because it wasnt lagging like the previous browser I used "Google Chrome" which would take forever to open, and freeze at odd times.
For a while the firefox browser didn't lag, until i installed the windows update. Unfortunately, I do not have a screenshot of said lag because all processes stop when the lag occurs. Last time it sent my system to auto repair.

And on checking the running processes, it turns out that the Firefox Browser has the highest memory usage.
