Format hard drive

Does anybody know how to reformat a hard drive?

I replaced my old desktop with a new AIO and would like to wipe/format the old computer and use it as a stand-alone HDD,

I've been trying for almost one week and I just found out I cannot format/reformat C: because it contains Windows which is what I'm using. So, does that mean I have to buy another one?

Any help appreciated.

How do you have the old drive connected to the new AIO, is it via a USB cable or some other way.

Can you post a screenshot Disk Management with the old drive connected. If you are booting from the old drive you cannot format or removed partitions you need to have it connected as a second drive somehow.

Hello. For a SATA HDD? All you want to keep is the HDD from the old computer? all you would need is a docking station. They look like this you can buy any brand ect This is what I bought though. You unplug the power of the HDD computer. Unplug the physical hard drive from the computer and plug in the "ican" device to power then plugin usb to the new computer then plug in hdd into slot 1 on this device then turn on new computer once plugged in and Windows has loaded go to diskmanagment and format the HHD and use the hard drive as a portable usb back-up disk. Can be used with any usb compatable device.

    Thank you for your response.

Consider this post solved. I just ordered a replacement HDD. Will install Win 10 on it.
